Flat Roofs
What is a 'Flat Roof'?
It may sound like a stupid question, but a flat roof is typically not a flat roof.
A flat roof is a roof which is, contrary to it's name, almost never level, but which will appear level in contrast to the many types of sloped roofs.
The slope of a roof is properly known as its pitch, and flat roofs will typically have up to approximately 10° of pitch.
Construction Methods
There are a range of different construction methods for flat roofs in use throughout the UK today.
These include, but are not limited to: 3-ply 'torch-on' felt, fibreglass (GRP, or glass reinforced plastic) and rubber e.g. Firestone™ EPDM (Ethylene propylene diene monomer - now you can see why we generally refer to this as simply 'rubber' or EPDM!).
Which Type to Choose?
When it comes down to which type of flat roof solution to choose, there's no 'one size fits all' answer.
There are pros and cons to each method of construction and the price associated with it, and that's where the the benefit of an honest appraisal - one that suits your needs, in respect of both longevity and price - comes in.
When you request a quotation from RJ Hood Roofing, we'll discuss your requirements and will be happy to both advise and to provide a quotation for various flat roof construction types, should you require.
Slate tiles have been used worldwide for thousands of years and are recognised as one of the finest roofing materials available.
Although more expensive, ruffer roofing (EPDM) usually lasts up to twice as long as other flat roofing materials.
A properly laid fibreglass (GRP) roof will last for at least 30 years with no measurable deterioration.
The traditional, lower-cost flat roofing solution with a lifespan of up to 20 years.
End of life roofing? Re-roofing is the replacement of defective or worn materials as required.
Replacement of defective timbers for new uPVc fascias, soffits and guttering. A better alternative to annually painting over worn materials.
The correct transport of rainwater is essential to the maintenance of any property, and helps to protect against unnecessary leaks.
Simulated lead is a cheaper, modern alternative to traditional lead - with the benefit that it's highly unlikely to be subject to theft.
